2020 focusing on people

Powell Joinery…Focusing on people! 

2020 has been a strange year to say the least, fear, apprehension and uncertainty have gripped the world through a pandemic that has seen the country come to a grinding halt. It’s triggered many businesses to evaluate the way they operate and to scale back. Powell Joinery once again decided to go against the grain! (yes that’s a woodworking pun)

We’re delighted and excited to introduce some new faces into the Powell Joinery family. 

Let’s begin with Trevor Watson. Trevor has come on board as Production Manager, working with Nathaniel to process customer enquiries, prepare quotations and carry out initial and pre-manufacture surveys. He will also be responsible for overseeing production. Trevor’s industry knowledge and experience, from grassroots through to management, gives him a solid understanding of all elements of the business. We’ve come to discover he’s well-known from his days at Taylors and well-liked by those who know him. 

Also introducing Dan Hawe as the newest member of our manufacturing team. Coming from a family run agricultural business Daniel has a solid foundation in construction and an eagerness to learn new skills. He is set on a career in joinery having achieved a number of woodworking qualifications. We are here to help him gain a NVQ level 3 in bench joinery through on-site assessment and in-house mentoring. 

Determined to support new-comers into the trade we have offered two apprenticeship placements this year. The successful candidates, Owen Sellers and Sam Pollard, are fresh faced, keen and capable. They have a passion for wood working and we’re eager to nurture their talent and encourage them to learn all aspects of joinery from manufacturing to finishing and installation. 

They will combine hands-on learning, with a structured course at York College in order to gain their level 2 and level 3 qualification respectively. 

Our new team members are all undergoing our training process which involves stringent practices to ensure the quality expected for our products is met and maintained.

A shout out to our extended team: 

Powell Joinery have a number of extended team members who offer specialist knowledge and expertise behind the scenes. Here’s a shout out to our unsung heroes. 

Sarah at HR Dept, Sarah ensures we are fully compliant with all areas of employment law. Her support over what has been an irregular year has been invaluable and saved us hours of time and stress!

The team at CCF Accountancy, have gone above and beyond this year with regular Covid updates, deciphering government provisions and offering sound ‘no-fluff’ advice. 

Our approved fitters, Dan J and Danny F who are very much part of the Powell Joinery family and enable us to maintain our service without slowing our manufacturing capabilities. 

A special thank you to our dedicated suppliers and partners without whom we would not have been able to continue to trade. Covid has certainly brought challenges but has also blessed us with new relationships, that would not necessarily have presented themselves under normal circumstances. 

Finally to all our lovely customers who have shared with us understanding, humour and kind words…please know we appreciate you, you have made our year!
