Say no to plastic
At Powell Joinery we have made it our mission to educate people on the impact of using plastic windows and doors. We’re also here to dispel the myths that U-PVC windows and doors are a cheaper and superior alternative to timber.
Wood is the greenest choice of window material.
Studies show its superiority across a range of environmental impacts.
Because our business runs on wood, we need to make sure we look after the life-blood of our business.
We source our materials from FSC & PEFC registered suppliers.
Promoting responsible management of the worlds forests.
It takes about eight times more energy to create a PVC window frame than an equivalent timber one. Most significantly, for every Wood window fit instead of a PVC-U window, saves around 160kgs of carbon dioxide.
Reduce Landfill Waste
PVC waste could elevate to 6.4 million tonnes by the year 2020. 43% more waste is generated by PVC windows than timber windows. Out of this about 82% goes into landfill and 15% is incinerated. Only 3% of the waste is recycled.
Cost Effective Solution
Plastic degrades, whereas Wood windows have an estimated service life of around 50 years, that's twice the life of PVC-U windows. Plastic windows can become discoloured and brittle as a result of exposure to the sun and unlike wood framed windows, they can't be repaired.
Once you maintain and repaint wood windows, their lifespan starts all over again. There's plenty of evidence to suggest that well-maintained, good quality timber windows can last a century or more.
Wooden windows are considered to be the best looking type of double glazing offering endless style choices.
With cost effective glazing bars and with any paint finish you can customise your windows to suit.
Don’t forget the value that beautiful wood windows can add to your house, particularly if you're considering selling. Installing PVC-U windows especially in a period home can seriously detract from the appearance, desirability as well as reduce the value of your property.
Wood windows are a worthwhile investment.
Wood has a very low thermal conductivity, which means it is a good insulator. But the energy efficiency of a window actually has little to do with the frame material and is mostly affected by the specification of the glazing unit, so well-designed windows have similar thermal efficiencies across the board, whatever material the frames are made from. Our windows are A Rated.
The Safe Choice – Security
